Organisation Details

The Bolivian Platform for Action on Climate Change (PBACC) was created in 2017 as a result of the interaction between former members of the different training processes in terms of climate change models promoted by Jubileo Foundation and Hanns Seidel Foundation. It is an organization currently formed by young students and professionals from different areas of knowledge and has a presence in the 9 departments of Bolivia.

Its purpose is to positively influence climate and environmental action in national and international spaces, generating processes of environmental education and awareness, promoting scientific research, dissemination of information and management of strategic alliances at national and international levels.

The objectives of the PBACC are the following:

  1. To increase society's awareness through communication and environmental education.
  2. To generate spaces for research and projects related to climate change and other environmental problems.
  3. To manage spaces for training and updating of the members of the organization and the population.
  4. To disseminate and publish the intellectual production generated by the members of the organization.
  5. To initiate and support legal actions that are related to the principles and values of this organization.

Focus Area(s) of Work

  • Resilience to climate change: We promote adaptation and mitigation projects, involving different generations and encouraging the active participation of youth in decision-making on climate change.
  • Sustainable communities: We work to promote sustainable practices, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon footprint reduction and responsible consumption, with the aim of building more sustainable communities.
  • Integrated waste management: We focus on addressing the full waste cycle, from generation to disposal, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing our ecological footprint.
  • Food security: We promote projects related to vegetable gardens, composting, socio-community initiatives, agroecology, responsible consumption and low-carbon diets to promote food security.
  • Climate governance: We work on monitoring national goals, participate in international agreements, promote tools for climate action and advocate for non-partisan advocacy in official and alternative climate negotiation spaces.
  • Biodiversity and natural resources: We focus on forest conservation, understanding carbon capture processes, ecological balance, impacts on flora and fauna, and research on biodiversity and natural resources in Bolivia.
  • Water Resources: We address water deficit, the water cycle, contamination of water bodies and changes in rainfall patterns to ensure sustainable management of our water resources.

Method(s) Used to Achieve Objectives

We generate spaces for training, research, climate advocacy, education processes through courses, fairs, events at departmental and national level.

Project(s)

  • "Inclusive climate action, with intergenerational justice and gender equity": Generate information on causes and effects of climate change in rural and urban areas, so that public opinion recognizes the depth of the climate crisis and how to address it systematically. Developed and strengthen capacities to generate opportunities for civil society empowerment and awareness and for them to become intergenerational agents of change with the capacity to transformbehaviors and generate proposals applicable at the local and international levels.
  • LCOY Local Conference of Youth Bolivia 2023: The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) is an official event of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It allows for the implementation of a youth-led process dedicated to addressing the challenges of climate change.

In this opportunity, the organization has been accredited by YOUNGO for the fifth time in Bolivia.
