Building Climate Ready Communities: A Climate Service Initiative for a Resilient Society in Bagamoyo and Chalinze District Councils: Implementing Partner – Climate Action Network (CAN TZ) This Project was funded by the Global Project for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change (GMACC) through the Regional Sustainability Network (RSN). RSN is domiciled at the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Kenya Office.  Climate change presents severe risks to rural communities in Tanzania, where subsistence farming, pastoralism, and artisanal fishing form the backbone of their livelihoods. Saving the Environment through Alternative Livelihoods (SEAL Project) Establishment of a Learning Center for the Demonstration and Propagation of Dragon Fruit Farming in Gulu – Northern Uganda.

Northlight Green Services (NGS) in partnership and Hanns Siedel Foundation – Kenya, through funding from The Global Project on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change (GMACC),  established a learning site of dragon fruit farming and cultivar multiplication, integrated with other creative Climate Smart Practices including permaculture, resilience design among others. This is aimed at promoting more sustainable alternative livelihoods among small-holder households and learning institutions as substitutes for commercial brick-laying, charcoal burning,  and other exploitative land use practices for food, nutrition, and income security while preserving ecosystem health and land productivity. Training of Trainers on Dragon Fruit farming in Kenya - Mbeere North Constituency.

A training of 32 TOTs from Mbeere North took place on the 18th and 19th of April 2024 at G8 Hotel and Fresh Farm Orchard Muraru respectively. The training was funded by the Global Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change – GMACC through HSF Namibia Office. From research, dragon fruit farming thrives in arid and semi-arid areas which is where Mbeere North falls. The purpose of the TOT is to ensure sustainability of the project even after the lapse of the funding period. The trainees are the climate change champions of the environment who are drawn from each sublocation in the constituency. The Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum (GMGSF) helps Major Groups and Stakeholders to prepare their input and participation in the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA). The forum takes place just before UNEA. It is the world’s highest decision-making body for environmental issues and provides an avenue for civil society to craft their stances, statements, and contributions to the UNEA-6 process. Accredited Major Groups to the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) of UNEP are invited to take part in this very important forum.
