Meeting with the Central Asian Flyaway range states diplomats
The meetings with Central Asian Flyway range states diplomats were organized to promote HSF’s Global Project for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change and raise awareness of climate change and biodiversity issues among diplomats from CAF range states. HSF Korea is working as a member of the CMS Flyway Working Group(ref. UNEP/CMS/FWG3/Inf.2.) and arranged meetings with diplomats to share information from the CMS COP14 and to make further opportunities to cooperate
Meeting with the embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Korea, June 20th, 2024
On June 20th 2024 Dr. Bernhard Seliger and Ms. Minjae Baek met Mr. Edilbek Amatov at the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Korea. Together they discussed their project along with the Central Asian Flyway (CAF) and biodiversity conservation issues in Kyrgyzstan. HSF Korea introduced a plan for making a scholarship program for a local NGO ‘The Ornithological Society in KG’ in Kyrgyzstan in 2024. Furthermore, they talked about the HSF Central Asia office and active works in Central Asia, and HSF’s plan to join the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE) 16th Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting hosted by RCE Kyrgyzstan at Arabaev Kyrgyz State University (AKSU).
Mr. Edilbek expressed interest in HSF’s work in Central Asia and biodiversity conservation issues. He gave a brief explanation regarding a national plan for forestry from Kyrgyzstan. He explained there are projects from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in Kyrgyzstan. In particular, a country office of GGGI will be opened in Kyrgyzstan.
Since biodiversity issues are strongly connected with forestry it is considerable to cooperate with the theme of biodiversity and forestry in the future. It was a fruitful meeting to share our activities with the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Korea. We could address international cooperation in nature conservation.
Meeting with the embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Republic of Korea, July 16th, 2024
On 16 July 2024, Dr. Bernhard Seliger and Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi with Mr. Sardor Sadikov, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Mr. Fakhriddin Nabiev, Political Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the meeting, biodiversity conservation policies, reforestation policies, and water issues in Uzbekistan, Korea, and North Korea were discussed.
Meeting with the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, August 27th, 2024
On August 27th, 2024, Dr. Hyun-Ah Choi and Ms. Minjae Baek met Ms. Shwe Cin Mya of the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. We explained HSF's Global project 'TH!NK GLOBAL Sustainability Network'. They discussed international cooperation on biodiversity conservation via the initiative for the Central Asian Flyway (CAF) under the UNEP-CMS(Convention on Migratory Species) and Myanmar as one of the range states for the initiative for CAF. Furthermore, plans for international cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar were considered.
