North-Eastern & Central Asia

In Northeastern & Central Asia, the Central Asian Flyway (CAF) is located which is coordinated by HSF Korea. The CAF is in the process of being established and officially launched at the beginning of 2024. The key thematic areas of that regional network include biodiversity, migratory birds, habitat, flyways, conservation, as well as international cooperation.

The objective of the regional network is to encourage biodiversity conservation in the Central Asian Flyway by:

  2. Supporting and broadening the network at the local levels.
  3. Experience and knowledge sharing with local organisations and government on biodiversity conservation and cooperation along the flyway.
  4. Knowledge and action plan sharing with CMS, international environment organisations and the experts such to move forward with the habitat and wetlands protection, and how to improve the cooperation along the flyways.

Key activities implemented within the regional network include organising meetings to support networking among experts, sharing updated information and experience, capacity building, as well as cooperation among different sectors.

The 14th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS COP14) will mark an important milestone in the establishment of the regional network. Potential partners are identified as follows: Central Asia states (Mongolia, China, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, India, Bangladesh, etc.), Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), International Crane Foundation (ICF), East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership, BirdLife International, Wildlife Science and Conservation Center of Mongolia, etc.
